Establishing therapy area leadership by transforming patient care through point-of-care diagnostic solutions

Establishing therapy area leadership by transforming patient care through point-of-care diagnostic solutions
Challenge

Changing the clinical paradigm regarding disease progression monitoring.

Client

Global Innovation Unit

Diagnosis and monitoring is generally conducted using an invasive procedure in this disease area. In recent years, a non-invasive option has started to gain clinical attention and evidence as a complementary or replacement method.

However, there is no standardised approach to adoption of this option across countries or clinics.

Solution

Identify and prioritise barriers to change

Step 1 was to identify and prioritise barriers to change. We applied tried-and-tested methods including literature review, patient and healthcare professional interviews and advisory boards.

We validated themes country-by-country and created a framework of eight key parameters necessary for the paradigm to transition. Our next step was to examine the extent to which these parameters were currently fulfilled in each market - essentially characterising how close each country was to changing the paradigm.

This not only provided clear direction for each country’s implementation plan, it also enabled the sharing of best practice between countries. Step 2 was to develop targeted interventions against the highest priority barriers to change, spanning topics such as patient activation, medical education and digital partnerships.

Outcome
Clinicians across countries are mobilised to change their disease monitoring approach

Our client’s affiliates are actively engaged with clinicians and healthcare bodies to implement interventions that enable the less invasive monitoring approach to be routinely used, thereby enhancing patient experience of care.
