Improving patient experience in clinical trials by identifying digitally-enabled solutions
Challenge

Digital requirements for clinical trials do not suitably consider patient experience.

Client

Global R&D and Medical Affairs

Technology has the potential to accelerate evidence generation and analysis across all therapy areas: our brief was to help our client remain human-focused throughout their digital transformation.

Solution

A patient-first approach

Technology-enabled evidence-generation can be looked at to solve many challenges.

For our client, the priority was to take a patient-first rather than a technology-first position when planning transformation in this space. Working with the R&D and Medical functions, our first priority was to create a shared frame of reference and an aligned vision to approach patient-centricity with digital solutions for evidence generation.

We created a simple framework for thinking about the patient journey through evidence-generation, including the pain points for the patient and how technology can help. We also created a decision-aid for assessing potential technology solutions.

We ran a one-day event at our client’s international headquarters to build awareness of the ethos and tools. Patient experts participated in the event and helped us communicate the value case for patient centricity in evidence generation.

Outcome
A new mindset, delivering new advantage for the business

Buy-in across functions and teams throughout the global organisation was high, with the framework and decision aid being highly adopted, and new digital solutions commissioned as a result.
